Natahlia Kinsela
Quiet Between Orders

Graphite Pencil

This piece explores the quiet tension between what is seen and what is withheld. In this self-portrait, light reveals only fragments, while shadow carries the weight of everything left unsaid. The face is split - not as a division, but as a coexistence of identity: the self that is understood, and the self that remains internal, complex, and often hidden. Every detail, from the softness of the skin to the intensity of the gaze, is intentional, inviting the viewer to confront both vulnerability and strength at once. The darkness is not absence, but presence - holding memory, emotion, and unspoken thought. By presenting myself in this way, I challenge the idea of a single identity, instead offering a layered existence shaped by experience, perception, and introspection. This work asks the viewer to look beyond the surface, and to consider how much of a person is never truly visible.

Size: 51 × 64 cm
