Jules Bulleid
Rose Coloured View
Acrylic and charcoal
This piece was made following a road trip to central Australia in 2023. I've been contemplating the 'postcard' images and sights that I took in. I considered how this impression is sometimes all that visitors retain from their experience and how these incredible sights might mask the history of a place. What else does this place signify? Were elders dispossessed of their country here? Were children stolen here? Were there massacres here?
I feel we need to view these incredible landscapes with context. It is natural to notice and witness the beauty around us. But the enquiring eye should be matched by the enquiring mind. To be a witness to the truth.
Size: 50 × 50 cm

About Jules Bulleid
Jules is an emerging landscape painter who draws inspiration from her farming background and her solo journeys through the outback. She creates work reflecting on her experiences in these places.
While inspired by nature, Jules' work often develops into an otherworldly interpretation, as she leans away from purely representational painting. Her process is to allow each piece to develop intuitively as the work flows onto the canvas. Both composition and palette are determined intuitively.
She works predominantly in acrylics and enjoys the process of mark making in many forms. Particularly spatial representation through topographical and contour hatching.
