Belle Arti
The Silver Age

Oil

This artwork brings to focus the natural process of ageing: transformation of hair to a colour elegantly labelled as silver. For decades, men and especially women, have tried to halt the march of time upon their appearance. Today there is greater acceptance of ageing. Acceptance of grey hair colour is a conscious choice in embracing our advancing age. In this painting, my good friend, Luisa is depicted cradling a full head of grey hair. She is an inspiration to many women who struggle to accept the ageing process of becoming grey. As we relinquish media expectation to remain visually youthful, we realise that what nature intended in grey and silver is actually quite beautiful.

Size: 77 × 102 cm
