Waterfall IV

Acrylic and collage

This work was made using a series of opaque, then transparent, acrylic and collage layers. The waterfall evolved into the piece, as I added layers of collage from old books and music paper. I wanted to show the way light shifts in these secret places by playing with transparent acrylics. I added rice paper to add texture. I love the way it soaks up the colour as you paint, although you can't see that as much now. The trees are like people dancing in the moonlight.

Size: 35 × 35 cm

About Bridie Schmidt

I make coastal and forest-inspired abstract art led by familiar and surprising glimpses of the landscapes of Bundjalung country and beyond.

By exploring layering of mediums and shifting hues to mesh the transparent and opaque, I seek a sense of fluidity and movement that is both mesmerising and awe-inspiring.
