Curtain Call
oil paint
This composition serendipitously came about after a few happy accidents. After failing to arrange some gorgeous stems from my local florist, only camomile flowers and yellow buttons remained. Neither my striped pillowcase positioned as table cloth or my bud vases worked. But earlier in the day, I had polished my inherited silver tea set after hiding it away for nearly a decade.
On my verandah, my composition transformed: fabric as curtain, creamer repurposed as a vase and leftover flowers - unlikely heroes. This trio spoke to me: reflecting timelessness and freshness. Proud and glorious they stood: used but repurposed. In a special nod to my home and how I paint, the reflections you see in the creamer are an inverted landscape of my verandah and silhouette, exactly as depicted the day I began this painting.
Size: 50 × 50 cm
