Fading Away

‘Fading Away’ explores the concept of modern burnout culture. Whilst skulls, as the most notable symbol within the artwork, represent the inevitable end result of burnout, the additional symbols (pills, journal, coffee cups, candle, wilted flowers and money) allude to a fast-paced society and lifestyle, which leads to our own downfall. Incomplete imagery within the artwork demonstrates societies inability to keep pushing forward, relating to the pressures put on people and how trying to keep up leads to an empty feeling. By taking away colour variation, the blank money stands out, reinforcing its hollow significance in a society fixed on wealth, while the skulls blend in, mirroring our ignorance to an impending downfall if we continue on the same path. I have intentionally left large areas of negative space to symbolize the gradual decline in productivity and to position the audience to experience a sense of imbalance and depletion.
