Ruth Rawle
Meg, 2026

Oil on linen on board

Painted from life, Meg was an excellent model who sat for 3.5 hours for a group of us back in February this year. I was impressed with how still Meg sat whilst posing. I was working with a palette new to me, Meg being back lit and in profile was also something challenging for me. I finished off the portrait at home that evening, as it wasn't quite done when the sitting was up. I was very pleased with my portrait of Meg, I feel I captured some part of her essence, which is always a goal when painting someone.

About Ruth Rawle

Ruth is interested in ‘drawing in paint’. This is important for her life drawing practice as she feels this approach helps her to stay loose in portraiture and her landscapes.
Ruth grew up in Western New South Wales where her initial love of the Australian landscape and the people in it come from. Ruth studied at the National Art School in Sydney graduating in 1999. Ruth currently resides on the Southern Gold Coast in the bush with her husband, boys and bees painting around life. Ruth also works part time at the Tweed Valley Hospital, Cudgen.
