Manuel Guirao
Perimeter

oil on wood

This painting depicts a fenced garden in Abbotsford, held within the perimeter of the city.
What interests me here is not landscape as openness, but as something enclosed, maintained and negotiated. The fence defines a boundary, but also allows a different kind of proximity, a space where contact with nature is structured rather than distant.
In this work, landscape is less a view than a condition: contained, cultivated, and shaped by the terms of its survival within the built environment.

Size: 66 × 39 cm

About Manuel Guirao

Manuel Guirao is a painter and muralist based in Melbourne. His studio practice is grounded in observation and shaped by an interest in how place is experienced through atmosphere, light and structure. His paintings often begin from direct encounters with the landscape, using colour and spatial tension to explore the relationship between the built and natural environment.
Alongside his studio practice, Guirao has developed site-specific public murals across Australia and Europe. Across both formats, his work is united by an interest in place, perception, and how landscape is shaped through memory and lived experience.
